SUMMARY

CMT Review will increase student achievement on the CMTs by providing effective distance learning tutorials that take advantage of cablecast TV and the Internet-two low-cost/high impact methods for curriculum reinforcement.

TV and the Internet provide equality of opportunity for students and families by providing vast amounts of resources that are easily accessible. The creation of personalized tutorials utilizing available resources will help reduce economic and minority isolation.

“Traditional classroom instruction is extended and enhanced by the use of TV and the Internet. CMT Review tutorials are designed to take advantage of the huge market penetration of TV and the Internet thus encouraging after school participation by students as well as parents. This participation naturally helps promote a comfort level with tutorials and test review materials and will promote the parental and community involvement necessary for an academically successful student.”

CMT Review distance learning initiative has these distinct advantages:

Teachers and Students:

•DEDICATED CURRICULUM: Subject materials are
created as defined by the Connecticut State Department  of Education. These materials are designed by  Connecticut teachers, who, on a day to day basis, at their  respective grade levels, understand and communicate  the precepts.
•TEACHER MENTORING: Curriculum allows teachers to  learn the best methodologies of instruction for specific  subjects mandated by the state standards.
•INTERNET AND CD ROM BASED TUTORIALS:
Multimedia tutorials allow students to reinforce core  subjects at their own pace, at home, with fun, easy to  understand and interactive lessons.

•INTERACTIVE TESTING: On-line interactive testing
provides day-by-day monitoring of individual  performance,  as well as instant district-wide  assessments of performance on individual questions.

School Districts:

•LOW COST: Use of already existing Internet and  television  infrastructure for extremely low cost-per- student instruction.
•HIGH VISIBILITY: Multiple means of distribution  guarantee public awareness.
•DISTRICT-WIDE ACCESS: through multiple media for
 consistent  lesson delivery.
•PAPERLESS DISTRIBUTION: of worksheets and test  materials
•PERMANENT ARCHIVING: Once created, lessons can  be  reviewed over and over again at little cost.
