This page is about models for operations. A model is a picture that represents a multiplication or division equation. We call these pictures arrays. For example, an array for the multiplication equation 3 x 4 = 12 or the division equation for 12/3 = 4 would have 3 horizontal rows of 4 objects. The array would look like this:

     

Students need to be able to draw an array for a given
multiplication or division equation. Students must also be able to identify a multiplication or division equation for a given array.
