Distance
learning over the internet is rapidly becoming a significant
force in instruction. It supplies a number of advantages
and serves as a powerful tool for additional classroom instruction.
Advantages are:
•High student comfort level with computer based instruction.
•Personal, on-demand tutorials that can be viewed
in
relaxed, engaging environments like home, school,
library
or community center.
•Highly targeted instruction: A classroom of five
computers
can have five different students reviewing five different
subjects on line, at the same time.
•Paperless distribution of instructional materials.
•Low-cost per student instruction delivery
CMT
Review has its own highly sophisticated, yet easy to use
website. CMTReview.com. This website is available to anyone
who has access to the Internet.
“Internet
based tutorials help decrease economic and social isolation
among students by providing easily accessed low cost-per-student
instruction, 24/7 - any time, anywhere - in multiple
languages.”
The
Web site contains individual subject home pages for each
of the identified strands or objectives of the CMT fourth
grade math. Each individual subject home page contains:
•Reading materials: Text explains the math subject
in clear and easy to understand language appropriate for
both students and parents.
•Worksheets and Answer sheets: Four worksheets
consisting of problem sets that replicate the CMT
questions have been created for each subject. These can
be accessed and downloaded by the viewer for home
or classroom use.
•Streaming
Videos: Each home page hosts one eight
minute streaming video that is a duplicate of what is being
shown on the district’s cable educational access
channel.
•Links to educational websites: These include links
to BBC Educational and Math Cats that reinforce each subject.
These websites include fun, interactive flash games and
explanations for all levels of learners.
•Online interactive testing: In order to prepare students
to
take tests and increase their comfort level with the CMT
process, CMT Review has created an on line test that
exactly replicates the style of the CMTs.
**Spanish
speaking internet visitors are supplied with Spanish versions
of reading materials, streaming videos and duplicate worksheets
so they can cross-reference the test questions in Spanish
and English
